Bye 2020

Last day of 2020, so a quick look back at what we have done this year.

This pandemic had caught everyone by surprise, and we are busier than usual just to stay alive.

We hope to resume our hair donations soon, as many had written to enquire, but our main focus is still to raise funds to make more wigs.

Our fundraising has been slow and just last month, Give Asia ended our campaign prematurely due to their system upgrade. They said they were not able to reconnect back their platform to the funding platform, so we would have to create a new campaign in order to receive funds.

We have been making wigs. Our wigs are not just for cover, but an armour filled with love for warriors battling cancer. 

This wig is no exception. Except for this warrior is a 6-year-old princess. Let's gather all the love and wishes for this little princess.

Important Announcement

Dear all,
In view of the evolving novel coronavirus (“2019-nCoV”) situation, recycle your hair volunteer group will be putting on hold all upcoming activities.

This includes our next batch of hair to be sent to the wig maker next week.

We would also like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and to adopt good personal hygiene practices at all times.

When all meet up

We had hair donors, recipient and volunteers gathered for one reason; donating of wigs.

And yes, all 30 wigs were donated to the wig bank of NCCS on Aug 24.

Did you know that..

Less than 5 days

This project was officially started in 2011. However, not many people in Singapore knew about this.

A lot of donors suggested that they should create more awareness. However ... .

For the past five years, the volunteers had made a total of 28 wigs and had donated them to NCCS and BCF. These are just some of them. They wish they could keep up with the demand, but ... .

It would cost the volunteers around S$200 to make a wig, and they are fortunate to have some friends, colleagues, hair donors and some anonymous to help in the past. Sadly ... .

Halfway

This has been a busy year for these volunteers. Other than busy appearing on television and social media. They had been supporting some event as well.

In April, they were involved in an event by Mediacorp Radio station Love 972 and Ocean Butterflies Singapore for VIVA Foundation for Children with Cancer. They help whenever needed. So help them to help more.

Five

Day number 5 … The volunteers have been checking the vote count as and when they are happy anxious. Still far behind.

They had been asking people to vote, but people may not really know what they really do. Yet again, another couple of months back (like there are 24 months this year) crews from Mediacorp Chinese News were seen with them. And then… they appeared on a television programme on Channel U.

The show, World This Week, did a brief segment on what this group is all about, you can watch it over at the link below.

But then, still no sponsor.

Vote for them, though they cannot be your voice in the parliament, they can help those in need too.

Once upon a time

Once upon a time, In a little red dot on a map, there is a volunteer group, collecting donated hair and recycle them into wigs for cancer patients free of charge.

Then came a fairy godmother group of good people and said to these volunteers; 'Hey! We could help you.'

And soon, the story of these volunteers were made known to many.

However, these volunteers are still struggling to keep up with the demand of wigs due to the lack of fund.

Then, the group of good people appeared again from nowhere and said to these volunteers; 'We may be able to help, but you will need to gather as many people as possible to vote.'

'Vote?' asked a volunteer.

'Yes',  said the group of good people, 'to vote for your story. The story with the most votes get the S$5,000 prize to jump-start your work in 2017. Just direct your voters to this link (www.ourbetterworld.org/en/good-story-of-the-year/2016).'

Feeling excited, the volunteers are now working hard to garner as many votes as possible between 14 Dec - 27 Dec.

Important Announcement

Wigs Donated

After much delay, we have finally donated our wigs on 5th July 2016 to NCCS.

Hair were sent to the wig maker last November, and the completed wigs were collected in January. Due to our hectic work schedule and the number of donors to arrange to view the wigs, we were unable to donate the wigs early.

Special Discount

The wig maker had given us a special discount for the 4 wigs we made earlier this year, from $200 to $180. This is to match the price they quoted Tan Tock Seng Hospital for the wigs they made from their hair donation drive. However, we are not sure how long this offer will last.

Total refunded amount is $80 from the 4 wigs. Respective sponsors have been informed. However, they are more willing to use the refund to sponsor more wigs.

Therefore, with approval from our sponsors, we have used the money to subsidise the making of wig Y15-04, instead of holding on to the money.

Adjustment has been made accordingly.

Wigs Update 01/09/2015

Apologies for the delay on the update of the wigs.

Earlier, we made 4 wigs, including a specially requested wig. We have recently made an additional wig (Y15-05), making the total number of wigs we made this year to 5.

On the 28th July 2015, we donated 4 wigs (see photos below) to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Thank you Hui Shan (our hair donor) for taking your time to come down with us.

A wig for my mum

This is one of the 4 wigs we made recently. It's a specially requested wig from a daughter to her mum, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Not only did she donated 11 inches of her hair, Adeline also helped to sponsor the wig.

We are glad we it was made in time for Mother's day.
