Important Update!

With regards to the false claim on donation of hair to our cause, we have finally gotten the person involved, Gisele, to cooperate with us. We thank her for her clarification as this is a serious matters not only to us, but also to anybody or organisation doing charity.

Attached below is her email to us, we are publishing it as to answer to all donors and members of the public. We will be forwarding to donors whom we contacted during our investigations and apologise for all misunderstanding and inconvenience caused. We have also requested Gisele to remove all posts on her social media about her hair donation to us, but no reply till date.

Recycle Your Hair would also like to inform the public that we have not and will not be accepting Gisele's hair donation.

A special wig

Clarissa and her sister wanted a wig; a special wig as a gift for their mother currently battling cancer.

We are a pair of twins who have had long hair for the past 10 years. We were never allowed to have long hair when we were younger because our mum feels that it is too troublesome to maintain it given she will have to tie/braid our hair for us when we go to school and also it will take too long to dry (indeed).

This is not a photo of the salon's floor. This pile of hair was what we combed out from a ponytail that was not properly secured or should I say not correctly gathered and secured.

Announcement 24/11/2013

Dear all,
We are announcing the implementation of the following with immediate effect

Collection

Collections are now strictly on weekdays after 1800 hrs at designated MRT stations only. These stations are; Buona Vista, Bishan, Paya Lebar and Dhoby Ghaut.

While we tried our best to accommodate to some special cases, many does not appreciate and wanted more from us. We understand that everyone has their commitments, so do we.

Rules
For those who are interested to donate their hair to us, they are now required to email us the following;
1) Name
2) Mobile contact
3) Preferred station
4) Photo of your ponytail(s)

Donors are to contact us on the day of the appointment, else we will take it as you are not available.

If you are going to be late, call or contact us via SMS. If we did not hear from you 10 mins after the appointment time, we will leave.

These rules were implemented because we have been played out too many times.

Donations update 20/11/2013

Donating 14 inches of her hair, Alanna just wanted a change... and so she did.

This is an update (photos) on Maya's donation, 5th September.

Maya and her lovely 15 inches of golden locks.

6-year-old Xiao Yuan will be attending Primary 1 next year. Her mother, Stephanie, said that Xiao Yuan is still not able to manage her long hair by herself, and encouraged her to go short as it might help others.

10 inches is what it takes to donate. But Xiao Yuan's hair is too short for donation, but at least Stephanie knows the that her daughter is willing to let go for charity and helping people in need. What a selfless girl!

Change of date

Just received a last minute notice from NCCS regarding the presentation on the 30th November 2013 (Saturday). The date has been changed.

I understand that some of the donors have changed their schedule to attend this session, a thousand apologies. I was only informed this morning. All donors will be receiving my email/SMS again. Yes, I will be bugging all of you once again.

Students and teachers went bald for cancer kids

On 4th May, 80 students and 13 teachers of Chinese High School Batu Pahat, a teacher from another school and a parent shaved their head to raise funds and create awareness for the Sabah Children’s Cancer Society. Among the shavees, two were female teachers.

Two donors viewed the wigs today. Blacastreon, holding the wig (Y13-02), was trying to look for her hair. Another donor (my anonymous friend), also viewed the wig (Y13-05) this evening.

I just love seeing the expression on their faces, it makes me happy too. (=

Update 12/11/2013

Yes, we have gotten the wigs, and there are still a lot of things to be done before we could donate the wigs to our recipients.

Met up with a Serene, Senior Staff Nurse, on Monday to talked about the donation of the wigs and she also shared some other informations which I will be sharing on a later date. I still have a lot to follow up to do before I could finalise the actual date.

Though it has not been announced, but we are now (since June) having a new collection system. More details of the new system and new rules will be announced in weeks to come.

Here are the preview of the 6 wigs collected today. Almost have to fork out some extra cash for the wigs. But anyway had email donors the photos taken today.

I couldn't wait to share this, so using my last minutes of my lunch hour to post. Yes, the 6 wigs are ready for collection.

Mass donation from Malaysia

We are pleased to receive our first mass donation. These ponytails came all the way from Batu Pahat, Malaysia. Evinn, a school teacher, organised a hair shaving event that helped raise funds for a cancer organisation in Sabah.

Some 90 over students took part in this event where the boys shaved their head and the girls donated their locks. Evinn was one of the shavees herself.

More details on the event will be posted at a later date. I will also update with more photos of these ponytail so stay tuned.

Lastly, I would like to thank Evinn for coming all the way from Batu Pahat and delivered these ponytails, and sharing with us her work during our donor-volunteer meetup session today. Thanks Evinn.

First donor-volunteers meetup

Today we had our first donor-volunteers meetup session. In today's session, I shared my story and everything about this project and also taught them how to handle ponytails.

Yanling, our donor-volunteer trying out her hair-tying skill. It's definitely not the same as trying her own hair.

These ponytails were neatly tidied up by our donor-volunteer, Yanling and volunteer, Sann.

Ponytails were delivered today by a donor from Malaysia, this is the first time we received a mass donation, thanks Evinn for coming all the way down from Malaysia.

I would also like to thank Yanling and Sann for coming and helping out with the ponytails. They are now our official volunteers! Welcome aboard.

Sneak peek

Went to the wig manufacturer during my lunch break today to see what's the progress of the wigs. It's about 80% done for all and should be ready by the mid of November as told.

This is wig 1, 95% done, some final touching up required.

The lady even combed and clipped up the fringe for me to take photo.

This is wig 6, ventilating required (see below).

Ventilating is very labour intensive process. It required a lot of patient and good eyesight. This lady is doing it strand by strand and from this photo, you can tell that she is not young.

Bringing smile to someone's life

"A lot of people were pleasantly surprised, or more or less shocked, that I mustered enough courage to cut off such long hair up to my chin. For me, I couldn't be happier that I made the decision not just for personal convenience or a new look, but also for the relief that my hair would be put into good use, to help the cancer patients in need.

I've always believed in recycling, and recycling hair is a definitely a great initiative that can benefit all. As it was too much trouble to mail it to Locks of Love in the U.S., I was excited to find a local organization with the same aim. Moreover, the proximity will hopefully allow me to participate in witnessing the wig making process or at least see and touch the final product. I hope that these 22-inch locks of my hair will bring a smile to someone's life."

This is another gift box I received on Friday, all the way from Malaysia. Donating 12 inches, Hazel went from waist to very short.
